LYNDA, GREG & GORDON

Lynda and Greg wanted a photographic experience because Gordon has become such an important part of their everyday lives that they wanted to celebrate what he brings to their family while they can. He is far more than a dog who happens to live with them — he is their constant companion, their reason to get outside and the third member of their little family. Greg had always imagined having a painting of Gordon, but they loved the idea that photography could capture his personality, his playfulness and the relationship they share with him in a much more personal way.

Gordon is a six-year-old Labradoodle whose world seems to revolve around people, beaches and, above everything else, his ball. He accompanies Lynda and Greg almost everywhere and has become part of the rhythm of their days, from long morning outings to trips to the beach and quiet evenings together on the settee. He is wonderfully affectionate too, with his own little rituals — cuddling into Lynda on the sofa and even sleeping with his head on her pillow. For Lynda and Greg, Gordon has made their world more active, more playful and simply happier. He gives them a reason to get out of the house and enjoy life together, even when doing so might otherwise feel more difficult.

The emotion they wanted their artwork to preserve was unconditional love, playfulness and happiness. They wanted to be able to look at it and instantly recognise their Gordon — ideally with a ball in his mouth, completely in his happy place. There was also an awareness that these ordinary moments together won't last forever. The photographic experience allowed them to turn something they experience every day, and could easily take for granted, into something they can always hold onto.

They imagined a substantial piece of artwork in their lounge, above the three-seater settee, somewhere it could become part of the room they live in and be seen every day. Rather than simply decorating the wall, it gives them a daily reminder of the joy Gordon has brought into their home and the adventures they have shared together. It encourages them to notice and appreciate the happiness that already exists in the ordinary moments of their life — a walk, a trip to the beach, a cuddle on the sofa or Gordon appearing once again with that ever-present ball. Their artwork is ultimately a reminder that some of life's greatest happiness can be found in the simplest moments spent with someone you love.
