After a difficult year marked by personal upheaval and emotional strain, Emily’s photographic experience was a way for her to celebrate something truly grounding in her life - her rescue Saluki Lurcher, Opie.

Having come from a background of trauma and neglect, Opie’s journey from fear to trust has mirrored her own path of healing and resilience. Emily wanted this experience to honour all they’ve overcome together, and to finally create something lasting—something that captures his goofy, loving spirit and their unbreakable bond.

Rescued at four years old after surviving as a stray with broken bones and visible scars, Opie was initially shut down, terrified of people and everyday objects. Slowly and patiently, she helped him come out of his shell. Opie, has remained the one constant in her life - through heartbreak, house moves, and setbacks, he has stayed by her side. Now undergoing hydrotherapy after tearing his cruciate ligament, Opie’s physical recovery echoes the emotional strength they’ve both had to muster. He still has limited mobility, but his bursts of energy and unfiltered joy remain.

The artwork from their experience hangs above the sofa in Emily’s new home—a space that before felt bare, but that now feels full of meaning and love. More than just a portrait; it’s a daily reminder of perseverance, love, and second chances. Seeing Opie’s image every day - goofy, lanky, wrapped in a blanket - helps Emily smile, feel grounded, and stay hopeful, especially after a year filled with loss and change.

Having this tangible celebration of him in her home shifts her mindset, from simply surviving to appreciating how far they've come. It helps her face each day with more positivity and gratitude, knowing that the journey they’ve been on together has built something truly beautiful and lasting.
