AIMEE, IAN, BEAR & MARGOT

Aimee, a compassionate vet, chose to have a photographic experience, with her partner Ian, to honour her beloved dog Bear - an Anatolian Shepherd cross she had rescued from a beach in Lesbos in 2012.

At 13 years old, Bear is now a senior, and Aimee felt the urgency of capturing his essence while she still could. After surviving mistreatment and a damaged pelvis, Bear found safety and love with Aimee and became a symbol of resilience, trust, and the healing power of connection. The experience was about celebrating the life they had built together and preparing for the inevitable goodbye with something joyful and lasting.

Bear's presence has profoundly shaped Aimee’s world. He helped her form friendships, offered emotional support during difficult times, and even served as a judge of character - she brought him on her first date with Ian, her partner of eight years, to ensure he passed “the Bear test.” Despite a rough beginning, Bear touched people deeply - even winning over a woman who had previously been terrified of dogs.

Alongside Bear was Margot, Aimee’s playful and loving Border Terrier, who had joined the family when Bear was unwell. Together, the dogs created a unique rhythm in Aimee and Ian’s home, filled with affection, loyalty, and the occasional bedtime head-lick from Margot to Bear.

Their artwork is now proudly displayed above Bear’s very own two-seater sofa in the living room, a space that symbolised his comfort and presence in the heart of the home. It became a daily source of comfort and pride - a reminder of Bear’s journey from stray to deeply loved family member.

Seeing their artworks each day bring Aimee peace, joy, and reflection, grounding her in gratitude and helping her face the future with a sense of celebration rather than just sadness. It shifted her mindset from fearing the goodbye to appreciating the incredible years they’ve shared.
