THE MOORE FAMILY
For Catherine and her family, their photographic experience was about celebrating a dog who quite literally changed their lives. Shelby, their English Labrador, was their first family dog — and his journey has been nothing short of miraculous. Born with severe hip and elbow dysplasia, he faced overwhelming odds. At just five months old, they were told they might have to let him go. Instead, they made the brave decision to operate, enduring six months of crate rest and countless challenges. Shelby not only recovered — he defied every expectation. Today, he’s a happy, playful, and endlessly affectionate dog who embodies resilience, joy, and the power of never giving up.
For Catherine, Shelby represents so much more than just a pet — he’s her best friend and a reflection of her own caring and determined spirit. They even share the same birthday, a small sign that feels meant to be. The photographic experience was a chance for the whole family to pause and honour everything Shelby has brought into their lives — his happiness, his strength, and the way he’s brought everyone closer together. For her mum, Trish, who was there through every step of Shelby’s recovery, the session was deeply meaningful. It was also a way for them to create something beautiful to surprise their dad, Doug, who spends part of the year working abroad and adores Shelby just as much as the rest of the family.
Their artwork now hangs proudly in the heart of their home — pieces displayed in the dining room and hallway where everyone can see them every day. Each time they walk by, they’re reminded of how far Shelby has come and of the love and teamwork that carried them through the hardest moments. The portraits radiate warmth, joy, and a deep sense of gratitude — not only for Shelby’s recovery but for the closeness he brought to their family.
Having that artwork in their home has changed the way they see their everyday lives. It’s a constant reminder to appreciate the small things — a wagging tail, a goofy grin, a moment of playfulness — and to face life’s challenges with the same spirit Shelby has always shown. For Catherine and her family, these portraits aren’t just memories; they’re proof of what love, faith, and determination can achieve. They help them move through the world with more patience, more gratitude, and a deeper belief that no challenge is too great when faced together.
