Sarah and Paul chose to have a photographic experience to celebrate Dezzy, their joyful springer spaniel who had brought light into their lives after profound loss. Sarah’s journey with Dezzy began after the sudden passing of her mother in 2018.

Having always longed for a dog but never able to have one while her mother was alive, she found comfort and healing in Dezzy’s wild, affectionate spirit. He became a lifeline in that first difficult year—bringing laughter, routine, and companionship when she needed it most. For Paul, a Navy man who’s away during the week, Dezzy was more than just a pet—he was a best mate who greeted him with uncontainable excitement and became the anchor in their shared life together.

The photographic experience helped them capture more than just Dezzy’s playful energy—it preserved the emotional bond and daily joy he brings into their lives. It was a way to pause and appreciate what he means to both of them before time inevitably moves on.

Knowing they won’t have forever with Dezzy, they wanted to create a memory they could hold onto on the good days and the difficult ones. The experience allowed them to celebrate his role in both their lives and honour the healing he brought into Sarah’s world and the companionship he offered Paul when he returned home each weekend.

The artwork now lives in their lounge, across from a commissioned painting Paul had gifted Sarah a few years earlier. This new piece added warmth and a deep emotional presence to their home. Seeing it each day reminds them of shared joy, love, and resilience. It sparks smiles, brings comfort, and reaffirms that, no matter what the day holds, they’ve already shared something deeply meaningful together.

For Sarah, it’s a reflection of moving through grief with hope; for Paul, it’s a tribute to the quiet, loyal bond between a man and his dog.
