SARAH, GRAHAM, PHOEBE, NELLIE & FLORENCE

Sarah and Graham chose to have a photographic experience to celebrate the love, companionship, and resilience of their two rescue dogs, Phoebe and Nellie. Both girls came from a puppy farm where they were neglected and rejected—but instead of being defined by that past, they’ve flourished into the most beautiful, loving companions. For Sarah and Graham, Phoebe and Nellie are their family. Their daily presence brings warmth, joy, and a deep emotional connection to both their personal lives and their work in a residential care home for people living with dementia. The dogs have a remarkable ability to offer comfort, lying quietly on beds for hours and lifting the spirits of the residents in ways that words can’t describe.

The photographic experience gave them a way to honour this extraordinary bond, to preserve forever the story of these “beautiful rejects” who now live surrounded by love and purpose. The shoot also gave them a moment to pause and reflect—a rare and meaningful chance to celebrate the companionship that fills their lives so fully. Graham even keeps a sign at work that reads: “A house is just a house without dogs,” which perfectly captures their philosophy. The artwork they’ve created is not just for their walls—it’s a daily reminder of the second chances, unconditional love, and small moments of joy that Phoebe and Nellie have brought into their world.

Their artwork now hang in their home — alongside images of their beloved previous dog —where it keeps the dogs close, even during the rare moments they’re not around. It brings warmth and a sense of completeness to the space. For Sarah, who works long hours and had faced some personal hardships, the artworks are a grounding, joyful presence. For Graham, retired and sentimental about the meaning of home, it’s a source of comfort and pride.

A few years after coming in with Phoebe and Nellie, Sarah and Graham returned for a second photoshoot to capture Florence, their latest addition—bright, naughty, and full of mischief. Florence has reminded them what it’s like to have a puppy again—exhausting, unpredictable, but endlessly entertaining. With so much recent upheaval—grieving a parent, dealing with probate, injuries, and change—the shoot with Florence felt like a way to bring some lightness back, to capture the chaos and charm of new life, and to add her to the ever-growing “wall of fame.” Their artwork is more than decorative; it’s a celebration of survival, joy, and the family they’ve built through love and rescue.

After their shoot Sarah and Graham kindly shared their thoughts about their experience

“I wanted some fabulous photos of Graham and I with our fur babies… and boy have we got them! The whole process was very well organised, everyone was very friendly and professional, it was a great experience. With huge thanks for doing something so special for us, we have had a tough few years and this has been an absolute amazing experience!”
