Sarah wanted the photographic experience to celebrate the extraordinary relationship she has with Hetty, her Bichon Frise and “best friend.” Hetty came into Sarah’s life during a difficult time and has completely changed her world. She gave Sarah companionship, a reason to get out every day, helped her meet new people and has even brought the wider family together through walks and days out. Sarah describes Hetty as her “absolute world” and says simply, “we need each other, so we make quite the team.”

What Sarah wanted to preserve was the feeling Hetty gives her every day: being loved, needed and cared about. One of her favourite moments is simply having Hetty curled up on her lap, close to her. The photographic experience was an opportunity to turn that relationship into something tangible and lasting — something more meaningful than the thousands of photographs sitting on her phone.

The artwork was designed for the lounge, between the window and patio doors, where Sarah can see it from the sofa and armchairs and whenever she enters the room. Having Hetty represented there means the artwork can reconnect her every day with the happiness, companionship and sense of connection Hetty has brought into her life.

Perhaps the greatest gift Hetty has given Sarah is that she has made her world bigger. During a difficult chapter, Hetty encouraged her to get outside, connect with people, spend time with family and find joy in ordinary days again. The artwork celebrates that transformation. It isn't simply a reminder of what Hetty looks like; it's a daily reminder of how Hetty makes Sarah feel and of the happier, more connected life they've created together.
