Mary sought a photographic experience as a way to honour and celebrate the bond she shares with her miniature dachshund, Eddy—her constant companion and emotional lifeline during what she describes as the most difficult year of her life. The experience wasn’t just about creating beautiful images; it was a way for Mary to process everything she’d been through, reclaim her confidence, and put herself and Eddy at the centre of a new, healing chapter. Having initially felt nervous about being photographed, she was surprised by how relaxed and joyful the session turned out to be—an experience that surpassed all expectations and left her with artwork that means the world to her.

Mary’s story is one of resilience and transformation. She originally got Eddy for her partner, even though the breed wasn’t her preference. But after the relationship broke down she decided to keep Eddy. In the months that followed, Eddy became her shadow, her best friend, and, as she puts it, her saviour. He comforted her through tears, licked her cheeks when she cried over the loss of her young Ragdoll cat, and remained lovingly by her side during a health scare that turned out to be a false alarm. Even in his mischievous moments, his expressive eyes and gentle nature make it impossible to stay cross with him.

The artwork they created together now hangs proudly in Mary’s home, serving as a symbol of strength, survival, and unconditional love. Every time she walks past it, she feels seen—not just by Eddy, but in herself. It reminds her of how far she’s come, the love she’s given and received, and how this little dog helped her navigate heartbreak and grief with grace and lightness. The artwork has helped shift her mindset from loss to gratitude, from fear to hope.

Now, even as she prepares to move and downsize, the artwork of Eddy will come with her as a treasured reminder of a time when her dog truly saved her. It helps her see the world with softer eyes and a fuller heart. Eddy, once chosen for someone else, became the very soul of her home—and thanks to this experience, that connection will be cherished forever.
